I know I haven’t been active lately but there’s a reason. I will be updating with fun things soon but for now this will have to do. If it makes you feel any better, my own journal and my diary have not been touched in months! From lack of energy among other things…

Since my birthday is 33 days away, here is my wishlist! (To make your lives easier)

Wishlist 2012

I was torn on whether to put up a wishlist or not. I was watching Happy Endings (or some show with a birthday episode) where the birthday girl said that she would rather be surprisingly disappointed than expectingly(not a real word) content. Don’t quote on me on that. What I’m trying to say is that I would rather get something that I didn’t ask for and be happy/disappointed (knowing that you took the time to pick it out for me) than know that I will be just content getting what I got what I asked for. Does that make sense? Never mind. Anyway, since my birthday is 27 days away as of today, here’s my wishlist to make your lives easier. (Random but I looked up my old wishlist and I also wrote it 27 days before my birthday)

My favourite things giveaway!

I am feeling generous today (not sure if it’s due to my sickness j/k) so I decided to have a giveaway of my favourite things.

These are a few of my favourite things that I will be giving away:

Here’s a closer look to what the winner will get:

4 Julep nailpolishes. You can visit their website at julep.com. I absolutely love painting my nails so I’m giving away four different colours for different styles. They’re a bunch of spring colours that’s perfect for this season 🙂

As you know, I talk about afternoon tea a lot, so I’m bringing afternoon tea to you. I can’t give you a 3 tiered platter with desserts but I hope you like the tea anyway.

I adore falsies. They really do make a difference to your face. So here’s one of my fave brands – Dollywink. Okay, personally, I love the MAC one a lot more but that’s like $$! Haha.

Here is me with falsies. No photoshop or any filters or anything!

As much as I love make up, you also have to keep your face clean. To keep your face looking fresh, I’ve included 2 facemasks from My Beauty Diary.

Girls love bags! Here’s a cute black bag to hold all your new goodies. I recently bought it on ebay but I have so many bags at home, I need to share the wealth!

Another thing I love is to accessorize. I don’t normally wear jewelry on a daily basis because it gets annoying when you work. Here are my 3 picks. A necklace and a pair of earrings from Forever21. And a plastic rose ring that’s from Mexico. I’d like to say that I got it while I was in Mexico 2 months ago but it’s actually brought back by Mr.S’ sister from Mexico last week!

And because I absolutely love that necklace, here’s a closeup of the pendant. It says “I’m yours” with the Eiffel tower.

How to enter:
To enter the contest, you need to be at least 16 years old or if you’re not, you have your parents’ permissions to sign up. The contest form below is an automatized raffle widget. You complete the tasks on the widget and you get raffle entries. Then on May 28 I will be announcing the winner! I’d make it shorter BUT I’m going on vacation and I don’t want to drop the ball…

This giveaway is open to anyone with a computer. I swap stuff with people internationally so I have no qualms about sending this package overseas 🙂

My gel nails journey

So this not-so-new thing – gel nails, have been a trend these days. However, I was not going to shell out $65 for a mani. (price sourced from an expensive salon to begin with so it’s probably cheap elsewhere) According to my boyfriend’s sister, she can get a Shellac manicure for $15 in her neighbourhood. Erm, that’s far! Anyway, I decided to buy my own supplies to do it myself.

To begin, I didn’t know where to start, so I just looked at the basic kit and worked from there. I was not going to fork over $80 for a gel curing lamp. Hell naw. SO obviously I went the ebay route. Hur hur. I got a pink one, super cute, for $20. Hell, they even have them for $10 on ebay. But they’re more squarish and not so cute. Then I knew I needed some sort of starter kit that included base coat, top coat, remover, etc. I found one for $15. It included some files and other stuff too. Unnecessary. Didn’t touch them. Then I thought, of course, I’m going to need some colours so I bought a gel set, again, from ebay, for $15. I also bought some brushes for $3. Total spent $53. It’s already less than the mani mentioned above!

So to recap, here’s what you need:
+ UV lamp
+ Base coat
+ Gel colour
+ Brushes
+ Top coat
+ Gel remover

I will go into detail next time I do my gel nails with colour but for now, bare with me.

First you paint your nails with the basecoat, then put your hand under the lamp. (There’s a timer on my $20 lamp so, I say 1-2 mins)
Paint your nails with colour, then put it under the lamp.
Paint your nails with top coat, then put your hand under the lamp.
And you are done!

So these are the gel polishes you actually have to have a separate paintbrush for. It can get a little messy but if you get any gel on your hands, just wipe it off using regular nailpolish remover.

For my convenience, I just bought some gel polish from ebay. They are of the gelish variety and they look just like regular nailpolish so this should be much easier!

This should last 2+ weeks. After putting the topcoat on, you can definitely see the shine and the fact that it’s hard! I would try scratching it with a key (like the Shellac commercial) but I’m a little paranoid about that.

A full tutorial type thing will be posted when I get my gelish. 🙂

Here they are! This is my first time applying it so it’s not perfect.

Oh you need some cuticle oil and stuff too. Whatever LOL. I’m not a manicurist.

So how long does it take? I guess it depends. It dries instantly so… maybe give yourself 45 minutes the first time around just to familiarize yourself with everything. Once you get the hang of it, and you actually have those gel bottles (Click here for the colour swatches, omg cuteness) it will be so much faster. I recently bought Seafoam, Need a tan, and Passion. This is such a cool thing for when you travel and you don’t have to worry about dinging your nails into luggage or corners or whatever.

Removing this, on the other hand…. LOL wish me good luck(Charlie).
